My definition of Comfort Zone: “A place that you are in either physically or mentally that is completely convenient. A place that enables you to be stagnant.”
An important part of stepping out of your comfort zone is believing in yourself and knowing that you can accomplish something great. It’s easy to look at your previous attempt at something and think to yourself, “Well it didn’t work out that time, so it can’t possibly work out this time.” The truth is, you are more than capable--and with God, all things are possible. What kind of thoughts are you thinking? What’s playing over and over in your mind? I believe that God wants you to step out and pursue that very thing that has been placed in your heart.
The Cozy Place
I’m a planner by nature and I honestly enjoying creating to do lists. I like the idea of writing my goals down and checking them off one by one. But what happens when life doesn’t go the way that you planned? I have learned to trust God in the most uncomfortable moments in life. At the beginning of this year, I was working full time while also completing an internship for school. I recall putting together the perfect schedule to allow me to do both. After finally settling in my new schedule I was interrupted by God with the thought of, “Don’t get comfortable.” I immediately accepted the fact that being comfortable was not where I was called to be. After a few weeks, I was provided with a promotion for a new position at my job. Isaiah 55:9 reads: “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” I believe that God is always looking to take us higher than we could ever imagine. I don’t believe that I would’ve been able to accept the promotion that God had for me, if I stayed comfortable in my previous position. What do you think would happen if you decided to step outside of your comfort zone?
The Right People
I believe the people around you can have the greatest influence on the choices that you make. Who’s pushing you outside of your comfort zone? Who’s telling you to pursue that dream, accomplish that goal? It’s so important to surround yourself with a group of people that will help lead you into your destiny. That which is outside of what I like to call the, “cozy place.” When I met my husband, he would often encourage me and tell me that I can pursue my dreams, careers, or whatever else I was apprehensive about. In fact, he has encouraged and supported me with writing to you today. As well as my friends in my corner, we are always encouraging one another to pursue the dreams in our hearts. I pray that God will provide you with people that will help guide you into your destiny.
Take One Step
I have found that my greatest victories have come from stepping out of my comfort zone. One day, God had given me this dream of “Confidence Found in Christ” and hosting photo shoots with women from all different backgrounds. Initially, I had so many questions as to who would do what. Finally, I stopped trying to figure it all out on my own and I decided to trust God. I’ve learned to trust in His timing and His plan. The key to this is not being afraid to fail. You experience such a peace when you change your perspective from failing to confidently trusting in the process. What’s holding you back from taking a step towards accomplishing your dream? Don't hold back any longer, instead pursue it!
Making A Difference
I encourage you to step out of the most comfortable place that you’re in right now and do something to make a difference in this world. This can be something as simple as smiling or saying hello to a stranger that you come across, creating the business you’ve once dreamed of, praying for someone, public speaking, or whatever else. I encourage you to make a difference in the world around you. Truth is, you never know who can benefit from you making a choice to live outside of your comfort zone. You could be the reason that someone decides to not give up on life or the situation their facing. Or you could be the reason why someone felt encouraged because you decided to share your story. I want to remind you that it’s not too late to accomplish the dream that’s in your heart. Dear friends, there is greatness inside of you waiting to be released! Here’s to pushing past your comfort zone and stepping into your divine destiny!
Leave the Past Behind
I once was bound to my past decisions. I carried the guilty feeling with me for years. I so badly wanted to remove the mistakes of my past. I wanted to remove the preconceived thoughts people had about me. I kept going back to what seemed to be comfortable at the time. As time passed, I realized that I could no longer endure these decisions that came with living fully for the world. As I mentioned in the post: “A Closer Look” (a-closer-look.html) I wanted out, and I wanted to be free from my past, for real this time. But was my past all really a mistake as I thought? Today, I can confidently say that it was all a part of the journey. I no longer look at my past decisions as mistakes anymore.
A “Mess” Into a “Message”
I believe that my purpose for writing this blog was simply birthed out of the decisions that I made. I say this respectfully to inform you that God can take what we perceive as a “mess” and turn it into what He can use as a “message”. I believe it’s all a part of God’s process. I want to encourage you to let go of the thoughts of shame and disbelief. I know that some of you may feel like there’s no hope. Trust me, I once believed that because of the actions that I chose to take would in fact hinder the future that God had for me. Have you ever experienced peer pressure to do something that you knew not to do? When you did it, you were brought to shame by the words and thoughts surrounding the action you committed? Maybe you’re in a situation similar to this, and you’ve been feeling bad about it. I’m here to tell you that you are not alone, and that there is hope! I believe that God has purposely put it on my heart to let you know that your past doesn’t determine your future. I want you to know that whatever you have done, whatever situation you are facing, God has a plan to bring you out of it. Sis, God doesn’t change His mind about you because you made a “mistake”.
Step Into Your Future
I can sense that my dear sisters, you are holding yourselves captive due to your past. Let me remind you of what the Bible says about your past: 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” One of the most amazing gifts of fully surrendering your life to Christ, is that your past is forgotten about by God. You become redeemed, restored, and brought back to life through Jesus Christ.
Maybe you're reading this blog post and you don’t know anything about God, or maybe you haven’t received the precious gift of salvation, but would like to give Jesus a chance like I have given Him. Please click the "Next Steps" link below for a prayer and the next steps to take on your new journey.
Remember that the Lord loves you so much and that His plans for you are great!
"But I focus on one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead." Philippians 3:13
"Letting go of your past mistakes starts with forgiving yourself for whatever you have done, receiving the love of God, and walking confidently into the future that God has for you."
