Many find it hard to believe that I once was insecure, that it was hard to love who I was as a person, that I used to solely rely on the approval and compliments of others. As stated in the previous post (letting-go-of-the-past.html) , one of the greatest challenges that I faced was accepting who I was and not letting my mistakes and the pain of my past define me. Sis, did you know that no matter what you’ve done, you are simply not a mistake? Ephesians 2:10 says: “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago”. Wow! This verse can free you from the idea of not measuring up. You see, God didn’t just create you to be a masterpiece to be placed on display. He created you to be a masterpiece to do something wonderful in this world! How powerful?!
“But you seem so perfect”
Can I be honest with you ladies? Just because I now know who I am doesn’t mean that I don’t get crazy, insecure thoughts. I just laugh at them knowing that God has called me a masterpiece! Ladies, you CAN take a stand and confess what the Word says about you. God calls you His masterpiece. Say aloud: “I am God’s masterpiece! I am beautiful!” The Bible tells us that life and death is in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). You have the power to say what you love about yourself or you can use that same power to speak negatively about who you are. You may be facing the temptation of giving up on believing that you are someone special. I can sense that the reason you are challenged so greatly is because the power of knowing who you are causes you to fulfill your destiny and your purpose here on Earth. Dear ladies, the choice has been given to each of you. It’s your time to be bold and confess what the Word says about who you are.
Work of Art
One day, I recall painting with my husband and friends. I painted whatever came to mind, I painted hearts, flowers, shapes, and then finally I created my future family. Once I was done, I looked around and saw how well everyone else painted their canvas. Honestly, I was tempted to shrink back and think: “Well, what went wrong with my artwork? My shapes look a little deformed. I could have done better here and there.” Finally, I began to own my work of art and love my masterpiece! Why? Because I created it using my imagination. In the same way, when God created you, He loved your being! He calls you a masterpiece! God doesn’t react the same way I did at first glance of my artwork. God never says, “Oh no, I messed up on that nose, I could’ve have done this better or that better.” Instead God is proud of what He has created. Genesis 1:27 says: “So God created human beings in His own image. In the image of God, He created them; male and female” This means because you are a masterpiece, you are free from comparing yourself to someone else. Ladies, you each are beautiful in your very own way!
Be You, Be Bold, Be Beautiful
One of my favorite quotes is the one above: “Be You, Be Bold, Be Beautiful.” I believe that God wants His people to have a boldness about them. You see, to truly love who you are you must be bold. This doesn’t mean you must be prideful. This simply means that there’s a level of boldness that comes with loving yourself. By definition, boldness means, 'a person, showing the ability to take risks; confident and courageous.' When you are bold, you take risks and begin working on a vision that God has given you without knowing how it will come together. A bold woman doesn’t allow the opinions of others to persuade her from doing what God has called her to do. A bold woman is willing to push past the fear of the unknown and walk confidently into her destiny! Ladies, I’ve been told many times to be the best me that I can be. Suddenly, one day it settled with me and I finally got it! I understood that I couldn’t be a duplicate of someone else. I could only be myself. Who are you wanting to be? Is it someone that you admire and find yourself comparing yourself to? Or are you completely loving the skin that you are in? The moment that you take a step of boldness in being who you are, you experience the true beauty of oneself.
